Uncertainty and Aged Care

Grief, loss and uncertainty go hand-in-hand. As we age, we are more likely to experience losses and stressors such as the death of a partner or friend, declining mental and physical health, dependency on others or a lowered ability to engage in enjoyable and fulfilling activities. We can feel more uncertain about the future and this can lead to significant emotional distress.

Sometimes, the fear and anxiety uncertainty creates, can present itself as anger, blame, sadness or panic. We may be instinctively driven to get rid of these feelings or discharge them, but it is important to work on our ability to sit with and tolerate the uncomfortable feelings that uncertainty generates.
